“Batman: Arkham Knight” revealed

The final installment in the “Arkham” series of Batman games has been revealed today via Game Informer, and it is scheduled for release sometime in 2014 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

Developed by Rocksteady, the studio behind the “Arkham Asylum” and “Arkham City” games, this time around players will have the chance to get behind the wheel of the Batmobile as they clean up the streets of Gotham City.

This will be the final installment in the “Batman: Arkham” series.

The game, which follows last year’s “Batman: Arkham Origins” (which was not developed by Rocksteady, but by Warner Bros. Games Montreal) but continues the story from the end of 2011 release “Batman: Arkham City,” will feature villain Scarecrow as well as Batman favorites Two-Face, Penguin and Harley Quinn. The newly-allied rogues gallery will attempt to take Batman down for good, according to the description of “From Father to Son,” the teaser posted today on YouTube showcasing the villains along with the Batmobile.

“Arkham Knight” is being developed exclusively for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, leaving those who have held onto last-generation consoles in the lurch. The focus on the newest generation of home-console hardware will likely result in a much more polished experience, however. Depending on how this game turns out, it may be time to upgrade for those holding out for must-have software.

According to current promotional material, those who preorder the game will be able to play as villain Harley Quinn and will unlock four extra challenge maps. If this promotion is anything like those for previous “Arkham” games, the four exclusive challenge maps will likely be the only part of the game where Harley Quinn will be playable.
