The next installment of “The Witcher” franchise is coming to Xbox One, PlayStaion 4 and PC with some new toys.
Fans of the series will remember that previously protagonist Geralt of Rivia could only traverse the lands on foot. Fast travel really helped for those long treks across the open maps in “The Witcher.” “The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings” favored smaller maps with more in them and more combat.
Now, however, Geralt will be able to travel farther in the game than ever before. Feel like giving your feet a rest? Horses are now available to ride about the new lands.
See an island that strikes your fancy? Take a boat out for a spin.
Horse combat has been added for the new mode of transportation, and deep-sea hazards like monsters and storms will make traveling the waves more dangerous.

The game seems to be taking a large leap in the direction of “Skyrim”-type gameplay, and that may be just the thing these new systems need.
“The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” will be available Feb. 24.
