Nintendo opens online store for downloadable games

Nintendo made their eShop accessible online via their official website today.

Customers can search and browse through the catalog of games available for digital download to either the Wii U console or 3DS handheld and purchase games directly from the website.

Making a purchase on Nintendo’s website generates a download code that can be either automatically applied to customers’ accounts and downloaded to their device, or manually entered into the eShop via their console later. According to the website, only consoles registered in North America are eligible for purchases made at this time.

While physical games are technically searchable on the website, they are not available for purchase through Nintendo. Physical games have a button to direct shoppers to other retailers like Gamestop, Best Buy and Target in place of the “purchase now” button present on downloadable games’ pages.
